iBeta was proud to attend the 8th Annual Crunchies Awards in San Francisco February 5th 2015.
The event recognizes and celebrates the most compelling start-ups, Internet and technology innovations of the year. The event took place at Davies Symphony Hall and was attended by thousands of tech types, companies and fan boys and girls. The awards were given in several categories with an academy awards-style format. Yes technology people are not always the most gregarious or well-spoken, that was part of the fun.
The event was not without controversy.Attendees were greeted at the entrance by a crowd of people protesting Uber and the way they compensate their drivers and highlighting the number of incidents of riders being assaulted by their drivers. Also, the emcee was comedian/actor T.J. Miller (HBO Silicon Valley) who did a few rants that took “edgy” humor to a new level (most thought low).
Awards were presented in a variety of relevant technology categories focused on mobile apps and services. Uber won for Best Overall Startup, Twitter won for Biggest Social Impact and Marc Benioff of Salesforce won for CEO Of The year. As award show do, it ran long and as T.J. Miller was on his final rant, the audience began streaming out to the lobby for the hosted bar for a short period of crowded networking before everyone was ushered out the door.
The event is a fun way to get a variety of cool technology companies together for a night of fun and festivities and we were able to meet a variety of exciting companies interested in our services.
